The City of Austin's Design, Technology, and Innovation Fellows program provides an opportunity for Austin’s passionate and civic-minded designers and developers to bring the principles, values, and practices of the technology sector into government. I am currently working on a Bloomberg Philanthropies innovation team on a project to tackle homelessness in Austin.
Content Strategy Goal: To reduce friction in language and help organizations provide more efficient
services and relevant messaging for the homeless in downtown Austin
To better understand the path of homelessness, I set up a lived experience advisory group by involving with individuals previously or currently experiencing homelessness called the Homelessness Advisory Council of Austin (HACA). I conducted a communications audit of the homelessness resource center (ARCH) and proposed alternative messaging and design solutions. For HACA, I was also responsible for designing the sustainability and resource pack for organizations interested in sponsoring the group.

Since I began working with the social impact sector, I have strived to use the power of story to educate, engage and deepen their relationships with their communities. I help my clients pinpoint their unique value by using human centered design research, creating community programs and identifying opportunities for cross-sector partnerships for my clients.

Non-profit supporting high-impact entrepreneurship in global markets
I worked directly with the Managing Director to launch Endeavor’s first Asia office. In Indonesia, I identified a diverse portfolio of 5 entrepreneurs and 10 high-profile mentors. In addition, I managed and mentored a team of 4 professionals, and led the Communications and Media strategy to introduce the newly formed organization.
After helping launch the startup, I was called back as a consultant to help develop and oversee the media plan of the international selection panels and annual fundraising gala.

Nonprofit providing solutions for world’s at-risk refugees
I joined Refuge Point on a project basis, working on campaigns for Refugee Day and Mother’s Day, which grew to include redesigning their communications plan. To develop a more community-driven website and social media plan, I interviewed Sudanese and Congolese survivors to help the public understand their stories, as a person vs a statistic.

Being in charge of international development, I ran a country study on Iran and incorporated YCAB’s international division as a 501C3 in New York. While in the US, I fostered a relationship with DoSomething USA and secured the affiliate partnership for Indonesia. I designed and unified YCAB’s 3 main services, restructured their website, and managed a team of 5 to produce multimedia content for their rebranded website.

As a Features editor, I assigned stories to and mentored 6 desk reporters and a handful of interns; edited and collaborated with the marketing, editorial, and design team for news layouts. I was a senior reporter for a 12-page Features section and the only roving reporter on staff to cover all desks, including: Business, National News, and Sports. In 2010, I developed 2 weekly columns on social impact and travel, the latter of which led to a book deal.

I trained 3 UN staff and 6 local students in multimedia skills, collaborated with the local communities in the interior of Burundi to develop the story, and managed production logistics of an in-house documentary promoting land rights issues through local youth engagement.
